General McCook, commander of 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, Cavalry Corps, transmits a communication from a surgeon in charge of an unspecified Confederate hospital. Indicates he intends "to send it through by a bye road in rear of their pickets so as to find their main camp. I can do it without difficulty unless the General Commanding sees some impropriety in it; or probably he would prefer sending it from his front." Requests that Elliot, Chief of Cavalry, respond that evening, and that he indicate whether McCook should send the letter through by flag of truce. Written on Headquarters, First Cavalry Division, Department of the Cumberland stationery. Written during the Atlanta campaign.
