Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Written by Ten Broeck as member of New York state Provincial Congress. Account with two line items, one for April 1775 and the other for May 1775 for a total of 1 pound, 16 shillings. A notation from 11 October 1775 says that he received the money from Leonard Gansevoort, Treasurer of the City and County of Albany.
