Print of Columbia crowning an image of George Washington and an image of Abraham Lincoln with laurel leaves. To the left of Washington are images from his presidency and the American Revolution, and on the right of Lincoln are images from his presidency and the Civil War. At Columbia's feet are broken shackles, an eagle, and cannons. She is stepping on a lion, which might represent the British Empire. Marked "Lithog. & print by Chr. Kimmel & Forster 254 & 256 Canal St., N.Y." Copyrighted by Henry & William Voight and published by "Manson Lang, 512 Broadway, New York."

Charles Kimmel and Thomas Forster were printers and engravers. Some research suggests that their business, Kimmel & Forster, ran from 1865 to 1871 in New York City. A recent book, "The Lincoln Image: Abraham Lincoln and the Popular Print" (2001) by Holzer, Boritt and Neely, places great importance on this image. Being printed soon after Lincoln's death, it was one of the first images to elevate him, in the popular mind, to Washington's status as a preserver of the Union.
