Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Author Graves feels the race problem is indestructible and universal, not likely to ever go away even with the appointment of blacks in Southern offices. He cites several examples where blacks are discriminated against in the North. Small advertisement on bottom left. Backside includes articles about George land grants and company debts.
