Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

As with GLC02711.12, this pamphlet includes many famous names. The Academic Staff includes Gustavus W. Smith, William S. Rosecrans, E.P. Scammon, and future general Henry S. Burton, whose signature appears on the back cover. Among the famous cadets listed are George B. McClellan (merit rank #2 in the First Class, conduct rank #62), Thomas J. Jackson (merit rank #17 in the First Class; conduct rank #24), Ambrose P. Hill (merit rank #12 in the Second Class, conduct rank #96), and Andrew J. Donelson (Andrew Jackson's nephew).
