Written as President to Gov. Lee of Virginia.

Nov 18. 1886

My Dear [illegible]
Please accept my thanks for the pains you have taken to put me in the way of gratifying any whim I have felt to own a saddle horse.
I hardly know what else to say. I am willing to confirm my belief to you that weigh considerably more than two hundred and fifty pounds and I do not know that the animal brought to my attention ought to carry my weight.
I am in doubt too as to how much I would use much such a horse if I had him.
Could he be driven at all in a team if I desired?
I must think of the matter a little more before I decided it; and in the meanwhile if not too much trouble I should be glad to hear from you again touching the points of uncertainty above suggested and the cash price of the horse.
Yours Sincerely
Grover Cleveland
