Sewall gives Lear power of attorney to "receive at the Treasury of the United States, the amount of my Account for Services performed in the District Court of Maine." Docketed on address leaf.
Sir, Pownalborough, June 25. 1791.
It being necessary to impower [sic] some Person in Philadelphia to apply [inserted]for and receive at the Treasury of the United States, the amount of my Account for Services performed in the District Court of Maine-and not being favoured with any particular Friend in that City-I have been induced, by information that Genl. Dearborn, the Marshal of this District means to request you to negociate [sic] a like Business for him-& have taken the liberty to give a Power of Attorney to you-requesting you will be pleased to pay yourself out of the Money you may receive, for your trouble-and then to procure a Draught in my favour for the remainder upon Some Collector in this District; or, if this should be deemed irregular, upon the Bank in Boston, and forward the Same to me.
