Philadelphia 9th Sept 1791

I thank you my dear friend for your affectionate condolance [sic], on the subject of our affliction. We both feel [illegible] perhaps too sensibly, but more particularly the tender Mother whose former wounds are opened afresh on this unexplained event, and cause a pressure of grief almost too much for human nature. May the powerful being who has smitten her, enable her to support the stroke
Tammy dear Sir
your affectionate friend
Mr. Lear Knox
