Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton asks Superintendent of Military Stores Samuel Hodgdon to check a return for military stores at New London, Virginia, that had been sent to him by Virginia Governor Henry Lee.

I request to see you this afternoon at my house & that you will bring with you the return of Stores at New London transmitted me by Governor Lee which I sent you to compare with the return made to you. It would seem that Mr. Holt has not reported any Cartridges in his possession.
