Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Paul informs his wife that he is near Sharpsburg and has been ordered to be ready at any moment. He describes a pair of knee-high boots that he bought for $7.50 from a sutler at camp, and then asks here to pay part of his debt to Mr. Russel back in Muncy. Also, he tells her he is glad Thode was not drafted because he does not have anyone to look after his property. No month on document, word processor inventory indicates month as September.
