One photograph entitled, "Charleston, South Carolina. 1865" taken by Mathew Brady. Image shows Union troops lounging on the front steps of Charleston City Hall. The building appears to have suffered minor damage.
The building's current address is 80 Broad Street, next to Washington Square. The intersection at which City Hall sits is known as "The Four Corners of the Law," with a church, post office, and next across from it, according to the National Park Service. The group of about 15 soldiers sit at the bottom of the stairs, or in the shade at the base of its sidewall.
