Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Philip relates to the Governor his desire to accomplish what he can as the new Secretary of Indian Affiars. P.2 contains a letter written in Dutch to Philip Livingston from his wife Catrina; the address leaf is addressed to Philip Livingston and is from this letter. Docketed on verso.
