Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

The document states that Margaret Livingston, the executrix of the late Peter R. Livingston, agrees with Robert [T.] Livingston to uphold an agreement previously made between Peter and Robert in which the latter is entitled to any and all rents, issues, and profits belonging to the former, including those accrued after Peter R.'s death.
