Writes to his brother discussing a battle in which he is wounded. When he was wounded, his pants were "torn and shot all to pieces and drenched in blood and my shoes came off my feet while a going through the mud, but that did not stop me..."

Dear Brother,
I received your very kind and sympithising letter on Sunday, I was very glad to me no that you have heard from me, yes I was wounded just two weeks ago yesterday about 5 o'clock in the morning, it was about two miles from Dury's Bluff a very foggy morning and I did not see the enemy at all until the rest of them made another charge and then they charged them but I was shot down in the first charge about thirty yards from the Yankee's intreachments, the ball entered my right thygh and past on through making a tremendous hole straight my ... my leg clear I beleave shot it clear the bone. Doctor thinks it may have struck it but did not brake it, 0, I think I am so my lucky of it had have broken. I could not have had it amputated because it is just up in my .... but I think that I will be abel to walk with crutches in two or three weeks, the furlough that I will get will be for sixty days and I think with it assistance of someone I could travel in ten days if you could get three or for days and come on about the tenth of June and with the assistance of you I can get off to N.C. Write to me or Sis. My love to Sis, I still remain your afft. Brother.
