Discusses the current scandal regarding the Washington Globe newspaper. Hopes that for the sake of the administration and the country, Blair does not succumb to the interests of the enemy. Discusses political gossip and seems to reassure Blair that his enemies' claims will be proven false.
Blair established the Washington Globe newspaper in 1830. He remained editor throughout the presidencies of Jackson and Van Buren. However, with the election of James K. Polk, Blair was forced to sell his interest in the paper in 1845. Welles was the editor of the Hartford Times newspaper from 1826-1836 and was Secretary of the Navy from 1861-1869.

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
