At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 70,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World to soldiers’ letters from World War II and Vietnam. Summary of Content: Printed and folded Civil War map part of Colton's complete series of Civil War maps. Bound in a booklet advertising Colton's other maps on the inside cover. Only Virginia, Maryland, an Delaware are in color. WIth a floral border. After title the map reads "compiled from the latest & most authentic sources on a scale of 12 miles to the inch."
