Henry writes to his parents from U.S. General Hospital in Annapolis. Reports his wounded arm is healing. Informs of heavy losses during the battle at Savages Station, Virginia. Comments on states offering bounty for recruits and how hard it is to be a soldier. Mentions that marching and guard duty is harder than fighting.
Henry enlisted on 27 August 1861 in Vermont as a private. He mustered into "I" Co., Vermont 5th Infantry.
