Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Partially printed pink receipt for William Remington showing a payment made to the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore of $457.95 for paving Oliver Street. Marked "Folio 2 City Taxes, 1875," and "James M. Anderson, City Collector." Murray signed certifying receipt of payment for the collector.
