Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Declares that he has still not left Hartford but orders are to leave at 4 p.m. on Thursday. Requests that his family reimburse H. C. Trumbull for a breakfast that he paid for. Written from the United States Hotel.

Our orders are to leave this place Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Left Ellen's letter at the Hooker's did not stop, no time, card inclosed found at Hotel desk for you. Did not pay H C Trumbull, he paid for my breakfast this morning at willimantic, met him but did not think of it, can you do it, will be 12 or 15 cts. I think Geo. will see every thing by coming in morning Thursday. Love Chas. Mr. Mathewson is here, have not seen him yet.
