Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Appears to be sent to the British consul in Nice, France by an unknown creator. Asks for the consul to arrange for the Duke of Cambridge to pay a private visit to the American admiral and fleet next Tuesday (perhaps Walker's ship the USS "Sabine" was part of this fleet). On blue telegram form with date stamp.
