Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

sister [Margaret Parrott] His health has been improving since he returned to the regiment. He thinks "the war will be closed up within the next six months and then I will be home to stay awhile." He does not "think there will be any more fighting done down here for some time, if there ever is any more."
