Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Partially printed document signed by Abner as president, and cosigned by Piper as treasurer and Morgan as secretary. Certifies that Eleazer L. Sarsons owns one share in the Louis Bell Building Association, which was created "for the use and convenience of the veteran soldiers of Manchester and vicinity, who hold stock therein." Labeled "No. 473."

Abner S. Sanborn served in Company H, 1st Heavy Artillery Regiment of New Hampshire during the Civil War.
Samuel S. Piper served as a Sergeant 1st Class in the 1st Light Artillery Regiment of New Hampshire during the Civil War.
Captain Eleazer Sarsons joined Company F, 4th New Hampshire Infantry Regiment as a private in 1861 and later served as the First Sergeant in the Company F, 4th New Hampshire Infantry Regiment.
