At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

...the small pox are not raging in camp as I expected it would we have not had a case for 8 or 10 days in this Regiment I have not heard of But seven cases in this Regiment and they were moved to the Hospital as soon as there cases were found out.
