From: G. W. Buntly May 6th, 1864
We have just returned from a trip from Miss. about 2 weeks ago, we got orders to go to somewhere and we did not know where though we started and we went through Atlanta and from there to Montgomery and there we took a boat and went to Selma and there we taken the cars again and went to Demopolis and when we got there we was ordered back and we did not get off the cars so we had to retrace our way back and we landed back to our old camps about a week back and we found all our houses burnt down and at this time we are all out of doors. The Georgians that are camped near us did not think that we would come back and they came over to our camps and taken all the boardsfrom our houses and burnt them down.
