Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Collateral: 81 News articles, mostly 1915-1925. The articles were written after Grant's death (bulk: early 20th century). Includes four articles about Susan B. Anthony centenary celebrations in 1920; two articles written by Grant's Granddaughter; stories and remembrances of Grant; and news concerning memorials, statues and his tomb in New York. Also includes Articles relating to Grant centenary (4/1922), Grant-Dent Memorial Association. Many of the articles have St. Louis imprint. Some are German language newspapers regarding Grant.
