Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Image is of the 212 delegates to the First National Convention of the Socialist Party. Each delegate's image has been designated a number, with a key printed below the photograph identifying each by name and home state. Six of the delegates are anonymous. The paper mount is fractured in several places.
