Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Written by Pollard as aide-de-camp to General William Heath. Receipt for 55 pounds, 3 shillings "on acct of expenses for the Troops of the Convention." Pollard was on the staff of Heath, the American commander of the district where the captured Convention Army was situated.
