A print of a photograph taken near Corinth, Kentucky in October 1862. Image shows a large assemblage of troops stretching across the entire photograph. A few soldiers sit in the shade under trees next to horses in the foreground, apart from the assembled troops. Published in Photographic History of the Civil War (2:161) which describes the image as : "With arms stacked, the soldiers are gathered about an improvised stand sheltered with a canvas, listening to a speech upon a burning question of the hour -- the employment of colored troops in the field. . . General Thomas, at the moment this photograph was taken, was addressing the assembled troops on this subject. Stamp of the Century Co." A mounted albumen print. The reverse contains many markings: stamped twice is "Art Department Century Co., Union Square, New York City.", written in purple ink on adhered tag "No. 20 Duplicate of No. 19", "Corinth" and "1155" (boxed) in blue colored pencil, "157" in red, and "20 Armistead" in pencil.
