At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 75,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World to soldiers’ letters from World War II and Vietnam. Graphite notation on verso: "Mrs. Abraham Lincoln" and "25-." Photographers imprint on verso "Published by E. & H.T. Anthony, 501 Broadway, New York. Manufactures of the best Photographic Albums." Cancelled Orange two-cent tax stamp on verso.
