Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

re: Again, there is no news from the Agency. Reports claim that some of the "hostiles" are coming in, but others claim that they are not. Hartsuff marvels that only the day before he was in Omaha with his wife and is now in South Dakota. Goes on to compliment Florence on the way she "expresses herself" and praises her progress at school.
