Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Remarks on the purchase of "Negro boots- made of the very best materials," which he plans to obtain at a reasonable rate. Discusses the collection of interest on the liabilities of the Michigan Southern Rail Road. A note scribbled on page two beneath the signature asks if Northern Indiana Rail Road bonds can be sold, and if so, at what price.
