Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Recently heard news of a schooner named "Stephen Duncan," anchored nearby. Intends to present a gift to the vessel, and places the recipient in charge of selecting the present. Discusses the purchase and shipment of spring supplies (shoes), possibly for servants or slaves (refer to GLC05339.11). On verso, contains a note written at the bottom of the page.
