Meeting of Brothers in the Two Armies, Lincoln's Proclamation, Battle of Nashville, Brilliant Operations of General Forrest.
A long article examines the events of the year 1862, particularly with the war. An article describes the reunion of two brothers at a prisoner of war camp. A presidential proclamation by Lincoln outlines slave holding. An editorial praises Davis for protecting North Carolina. A lengthy letter to the editor examines the state of North Carolina. Gubernatorial proclamations outline efforts to counter speculation and exportation of certain items.
The paper was printed in Salem, North Carolina from 1851-1892, when it was absorbed by the Western Sentinel. At the time of this collection, the paper was edited and printed by L.V. Blum, who owned the Salem Printing Office. He also published and sold the annual Farmers' and Planters' Almanac.

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
