Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Weekly Unionist newspaper. 2 copies of vol. 1, no.1, 11/11/1863. Parson Brownlow added the subtitle (starting a new series) after his triumphant return to Tennessee; he had been expelled the previous year from the Confederacy. Vol. 1 nos. 1-12, 14-26, 31-52; vol 2 nos. 1-9, 11-15. The issue dated 11/25/1864 lists election results by state in tabular form.
