[draft]
15 January 1865
In the field near Columbia, Tenn.
Dear Mother and All at Home
We are now on the march to Eastport Miss. We were twelve days marching from Louisville to Nashville and did a very cold, wet, muddy, disagreeable march. We lay near Nashville three days and then marched to this place which we leave tomorrow. We still have nearly one hundred and fifty miles to march before we reach our destination. The weather is very cold and you can imagine how pleasant it is to sleep on the ground when it is covered with six inches of snow. But I am well and hearty and have only seven months and twelve days to serve from today. You may not hear from me in some time and we have a long march to make. Mr. Hogletin's wife came to Louisville passing him on his very home she immediately about faced and started fro Michigan. It was quite a disappointment for her. Has Mr. Warner been to see you yet? Em's and Charley's letter of Nov. 13 was only received yesterday but was nevertheless as interesting as it would have been had I not received it in a year.

Love to all,
Your Aff Son,
George
