At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Includes information on Bounty Acts, veteran's status, heirship in bounty, desertion, death after discharge, recruits, volunteers, drafted men, substitutes, and instructions to African American soldiers, among other topics. Contains a sticker and imprint from Dover Public Library, Dover, New Hampshire. Includes handwritten numbers and letters underneath the title on page three.
