Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

George was to "appear before the Committee of Investigation of the House of Representatives...in the case...wherein the Republic of Texas" was involved. Indicates that Jefferson obeyed the summons and was entitled to reimbursement for travel expenses. Signed by Bunton, a member of the Texas House of Representatives, as chairman of the Committee of Investigation. Also signed and approved by John M. Hansford, the Speaker of the House.
