Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Payment to be made to "Thomas P. Shapard or bearer."

Also known as "Captain Jack," Hall fought under Andrew Jackson in the battle of New Orleans. He came to Texas as a member of the "Old 300" and later provided the building in Washington-on-the-Brazos where the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed.
