Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 70,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World to soldiers’ letters from World War II and Vietnam. The first was an "Errata in ordinance and draw authorising the Govern[or] to give instructions to Commissioners to the United States" and the second was an "Errata in ordinance and draw to raise a Loan for the use of the Provisional Government of Texas." Lists corrections in wording to be made to specific sections of the ordinances. Date pencilled in at a later time.

Stewart served in William Kimbros' 8th company at the Battle of San Jacinto during the Texas Revolution.
