I take the pleasure At this presant time to address In theese few lines. I - do hope that You and you Lady is Enjoying The pleasure of home life your Children also
Dear Sir Since you and I have Parted I have Experianced some Of A Solgiers life I - have been on Water Some 18 Days about from one Place to another I - do Fancy this Place to any I have Been as yet We are Encamped in the vicini[inserted: ty] of Beaufort S.C. It was at one time The home of a Proud Wealthy People But at presant their Splendid mansions is occupied By Union Officers. Marshals Deuputies and Hospitals. [inserted: are] to [2] What A scange this unreasona[inserted: ble] Rebillion: By what we can under Stand at presant. Our Army is victorious in all quarters. I have the pleasure to inform You that I have Been out in the Country here for Some Miles it Looks good and as good any, I Ever Have have Been in the improvemen[inserted: ts] Is inferior to ours But the land Is level and Fertile the Country Is abouned: with fine pick pine Timbers aver[inserted: ag]ing from 80.to.120 [inserted: high] fi[text loss] The Soil will produce all kinds Well watered and heavy dews Cotton is the only Staple here in Want of knowledge of culture And northern improvements the Climate I believe is not so warm As had Been represented
Berries and fruit in Abundance Palmeto. and Lemon and orange [inserted: trees]
