Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes to his mother about his lack of mail. Reports that his plans to enter officer school have been cancelled because the war has ended. Expects to be home soon and intends to settle in his hometown of Washington, Pennsylvania. Written on American Expeditionary Force letterhead.

Flynn was in Company L, 3rd Battallion, 111th Infantry, American Expeditionary Forces.
