Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Tells his mother he has recieved her letters and is glad to hear that Harold is doing well. Reports that work on the roads has been slow due to the cold weather. Writes that he is aware of Theodore Roosevelt's death and says he gets current news from the Paris edition of the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, and the London Daily Mail. Written on YMCA letterhead.

Corporal Hopkins was in Company F, 305th Engineers, American Expeditionary Forces. Harold Hopkins is his brother.
