Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes to a friend that he constantly thinks about their great times in the country before he shipped out and hopes to have many more once he returns. Says that the local people are very different from the Americans but they have fun together nonetheless. Discusses his schooling and the rigorous training required of his branch of the service. Written on 141st U.S. Field Artillery letterhead.

Corporal Tuell fought with the American Expeditionary Forces in the Headquarters Company, 141st Field Artillery, 39th Division.
