At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. Summary of Content: One engraving entitled "Somes' Sound (Mt. Desert) dated 1861. Depicts a lanscape view of Mt. Desert Island and Somes Sound. A small cabin and two cows are at the forefront of the painting. Engraved by William Wellstood from the original painting by William Hart. The painting was in possesion of the artist at time of engraving.
