Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One engraving entitled, "Battle at Princeton" circa 1861-1877. Depicts the Battle at Princeton, a victory General George Washington's forces. General Washington is present along with Lieutenant Charles Turnbull. British infantry can be seen on the left. Engraved by J. Rogers after a painting by John Trumbull.
