Changing times have led to changes in American ways of life and religion. Marvels at the advances of the era, and how much life is changing and advancing. Worries that the "Romanists," meaning Catholics, are trying to take over the country, though he believes they will fail. His own Episcopal parish is building a new church. Hopes he will soon be able to return to sea.
James T. Gerry was a United States Naval Captain. He was the son of Elbridge Gerry, the fifth Vice President of the United States.
Elbridge T. Gerry founded the New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, and worked on various other humanitarian causes. He was the grandson of Elbridge Gerry, the fifth Vice President of the United States.
