Dearest,
Hello: Well sat rolls around and somehow I am tired [strikeout] but very cheerful - because I love Sat afternoons. I got busy this morning with your letter early, because I was so anxious to answer[struck: e] your Portland. letter. I am so glad that you had that time off - you seemed to have enjoyed it so much. You sure did a round of USO places and hotels - if you can count the Hotel Senator in Salem as a hotel. I know that the rest too was much needed and that you probably returned to Camp - a gay Caballero -No? - yes?
As for your trip thru the Department stores of Portland all I can say is you are both a deary dear to even have thought of buyin[inserted: g] me a gift and a RAT for piquing my curiosity and then let me hang in the air for a million year ( ten days). I love you for even thinking of getting me something, especially because your funds are so limited - well I shouldn't be surprised - since when did you change your colors - you were always a cookie and remain so even at a distance of 3100 miles. Thank you in advance ( with piqued curiosity ) and of course I will thank you again later -
The letter I sent our this morning about last nite, I am afraid did not convey fully the essence of the evening - I hope that you get something of the feeling out of it - It was really precious - It could have made an excellent play - you know typical situation of attractive daughter bringing home important beau - of course this had enough variation to make it a little different although how peculiar human being are - meaning me - I felt as if I w[inserted: ere] ina [sic] play last nite - yet in retrospect - if I had seen the thing on the stage - I would have said - How trite and unlike life! But all in all it was fun.
I called Ann Levine later at night after I finished writing you.

It is funny all of her feelings about Second Front etc etc are dumped when she thinks of Hy and the possibility that anything could happen to him - I assured her that that was perfectly natural - anyway what Hy had been expecting happened. The repair unit was transferred to Governor's I. [strikeout] It is a terrific trip for the trucks - towing for 3 miles and ferrying across - but so[inserted: me] stinky Major wants it that way. Hy was told that if he transferred witht [sic] the unit, he would be demoted to Pvt again - because the Major on G.I. is partial to his own fellers. So Hy had the choice of remaining at the armory, temporarily continuing his present status. However, he is now riding the trains - between N.Y. and Albany and Phil. It[inserted: 's] O.K. bu[inserted: t] the hours are screw[struck: e]y. How are you getting on with your tech training? Gee - Pop wanted to ask you something and forgot to tell me before I left - Oh yes I also took the number of the allotment again and will write tomorrow to the Office of Service Benefits in Newark .N.J.
Well I am going to the OPERA tonite - with Mad and Sarah. [inserted: Mad] had bought the tickets a long time ago - we also plan to have Chines [sic] meal - so I expect a Gala evening - for the Greenfields and Felker -
Sarah said that she has much information about OCS, application and all - which if it really is important I shall write you about - otherwise shall not. Well SWEETS - here I go back to work --the thing that has to be done -
Oh! How I care for you
Until I am in a stew -
So here is your cue -
To say I love you, too.
Ain't that somethin! But it is TRUE.
LOVE*LOVE*LOVE*LOVE*LOVE*LOVE*LOVE*LOVE*LOVE*
me,
Syl!
