Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Written at 10:30 PM. Sylvia comments on Moe's seeing Mount Ranier [Washington State] from the truck on the way to his new base. Recalls that he always said he wanted to see the West. Gives him the addresses of some friends in the Army. Notes he has become acquainted with 2 refugees. Is interrupted by a phone call. Reports back that it was his mother saying he is coming home.
