Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

An invitation from Mrs. Stella Johnson for the wedding of her daughter, Genevieve Aletta, to Martin Huska. The wedding is to be held on 24 September 1938 at the Evangelical Saron Lutheran Church in Chicago, Illinois. The envelope has a note from Paul H. Lobik indicating that he kissed Margie Crist for the first time on the night of the wedding.
