One trading card from the Red Menace collection, "31. Case of Cardinal Mindzenty" depicting Joseph Mindzenty seated at a bench in court. Reverse side contains propaganda narrative that mentions a Catholic cardinal, Joseph Mindzenty, who was put on trial by "Hungarian Reds" and sentenced to life imprisonment. Text notes that "partial confessions" were due to communist torturing and drugs.
Jozsef Mindszenty was a cardinal of the Catholic Church in Hungary. His staunch opposition against communism in Hungary during World War II led to his imprisonment by the Nazi Party. In 1948, he was arrested by People's Republic of Hungary on the grounds of conspiracy. During his 1949 show trial it was visible that he had gone through torture. Later revealed that he was hit with rubber bullets.
